Look

a bug. Miss K came to the door the other day after she had been outside digging in the dirt. She had something to show me -- a bug.

She was very proud of the bug that she found. I had to tell her to take him back outside and not to squeeze her hand too tight.

Games - Rat and Cat

which we call, Marbles. My grandfather made the board. One one side six people can play and the other side is made for four people.

You need a 1 or 6 to get out and if you get a 6 you get to roll again but you don't want to get 3 in a row or your furtherest marble will go home. Four means you move backwards and that can save you have to go all the way around the board.

Miss K has learned to play and does a good job at counting. You have to help her figure out what she wants to do but she has learned.

J wins quite a number of games.

I have found J and K sitting on the living room floor playing marbles together.

"My Brother"

For some reason Miss K has begun to call J, "brother".  She was so excited to see him after he spent the night at a cousin's house. She ran to him, excitedly calling "brother". It makes a mama's heart so happy to see them loving and playing with each other.

We had a squabble (that word truly describes the moment -- fighting over who gets to hold the keys as we walk to the car) on the way home from CC. It took some time to talk through this. Then they were allowed to go outside for a few minutes before we got dinner. When I went to tell him it was time to come in for dinner, This is what I found.

Sharing the monkey swing. They do love each other even after the squabble.

Sight Word Bingo

I saw a word Bingo game at the used curriculum sale. I thought about buying it but it didn't take me long to decide that I really could make my own and by doing that I could have the words that I want.

Miss K is a very visual learner and she is learning quite a number of sight words. I have started working with the Dolch word list. Right now we are working on the pre-primer list. I used that to make four cards.

I wrote the words on our cards and then wrote the words on slips of paper and we put those in a bowl and take turns pulling a word and reading it. This gives Miss K reading practice. Then she needs to find the word on her card and if it is mama or J's turn to read she has to listen and then find the word. I decided that really gives her lots of practice. The game was a hit. J enjoyed playing it with us and Miss K asked to play the next day.

The other year I bought some mini erasers from Oriental Trading Company. We have insects and zoo animals. They make fun markers for bingo.

We had fun with sight words and so we made a Latin Bingo which has Latin on the board and English translation on the slips of paper.

Egg Hunt

Another tradition at Grandma's is the egg hunt. While Grandpa and the uncles hide the eggs, the children practice looking for eggs in the basement. Then it was off to find the eggs.

It took Miss K a bit to get started.

Jack was off to the back of the yard looking for the eggs.

She got the idea and at the same time was very insistent that she could do it herself. She found her 18 eggs.

I enjoy watching J help Miss K. They are such good friends.

The eggs were full of coins mostly pennies, nickels, and dimes with a few quarters. Grandpa might find some eggs when he mows the lawn.

Resurrection Sunday

He is risen.

I can't say that it was the warmest day that we have this spring.

I didn't get that many pictures. We are missing Daddy who is traveling so we didn't get the whole family.

Decorating Eggs

On Friday we had the annual egg decorating time at Grandma's house.

J was very creative in his decorating. It might be hard to see but this is Humpty Dumpty. He was very intent on decorating.

Miss K had a cup of pink to dye the eggs in and she was happy. Her question at lunch was, "what is your favorite color? She answered without much time for thinking, "pink".

She did enjoy decorating but most of the time was saying, "my turn". Her independence is strong and displayed by the splashes of dye around where she was sitting.

I asked the children to pick there favorite take so we could show daddy.

Miss K had pink ones to pick from. She found two.

J picked four. He has so many favorites.

It was a fun afternoon.
