There was an event today at a park that has some wetlands. We got there at 10:00 when it began. There were some volunteers from the Audubon Society with some tables and information about birds. We ended up getting a guided tour through the park and wetlands with a volunteer ranger. She was very knowledgeable having lived in that area for over 30 years.
We walked down to the wetlands area where they have walkways built so you can go out and get closer. The first thing we saw where the turtles.
It was a nice sunny day and so the turtles were out enjoying the weather. A number of them were lined up on a log. Miss K said they were going to school.
We saw a red-winged blackbird. I was trying to take the picture while keeping track of Miss K and making sure that she didn't land in the wetland.
We saw some Canada Geese and our tour guide educated us on the fact that they are called Canada Geese and not Canadian Geese.
High on a piling in the lake was a blue heron. We used our binoculars and were able to get a good look. I don't have a super telephoto lens so this the best picture that we got.
We saw a Mallard Duck sitting on the her nest and also saw a few of them in the water. This one swam right up to us and then swam under us.
As our tour was ending we saw a bald eagle up in the sky. We had heard that there was one or two that live there at the lake. I know there is also one at the lake near our house.
It was fun family day. Miss K did get tired at the end of the walk and asked everyone in the family to carry her. She got carried a bit but then was encouraged to run with her ribbon.
